Game of Thrones season 8 proves sometimes audiences really do need that happy ending forced on them. A story that just crushes everyone leaves people feeling like they wasted their time. Giving characters a win can be the satisfying payoff the whole plot was building toward.

The finale's hopeless tone undermined all the earlier seasons. Seeing Jon Snow actually achieve something would have made the long watch feel worth it.

Agree with this so much... I felt cheated by another show's bleak ending last year. Watching everyone fall apart after so many seasons just wasted my time. Giving fans a win, even a small one, would have made all the difference.
