My writing group leader handed out a prompt that was just a grocery receipt, and it worked better than any prompt I've ever written
I go to a small writing group at the library in Dayton every other Tuesday, about 8 of us show up. Two weeks ago the leader passed out copies of her own grocery receipt from Kroger, 14 items, and told us to write a scene where every item meant something. I got 3 pages out of a $4.99 rotisserie chicken and a bag of ice. It made me rethink how I write prompts for myself, since I always go big with stuff like 'a lighthouse in a storm.' Has anyone else tried using found objects or junk mail as prompts instead of writing your own?
