Hot take: I think tower crane operators get too much credit for the easy lifts

I spent 5 years running a mobile crane before I switched to tower work three summers ago in Portland, and honestly the tower guys have no idea how good they have it with their fixed radius and pre-planned picks. Has anyone else made the switch and felt like the challenge level dropped way off?

My buddy was a tower operator for 8 years and seeing his daily prep work actually changed my whole view on it.

Man, I totally used to think it was just showing up and climbing a ladder all day. Then I watched my friend's morning checklist and realized how much weather, gear checks, and coordination actually goes into it. Kinda humbling, you know, when you see the real work behind something you thought was simple.

@kevin_west that "real work behind something simple" thing... it's like that with most jobs we don't do ourselves.
