My $12 curtain rod hack is holding up better than my actual shelves
Last month I tried to dress up my tiny rental living room on a budget, so I grabbed a tension rod from Target for $12 and hung some thrifted sheets as curtains. The rod held for exactly 4 days before the whole thing crashed onto my cat's favorite chair, and she gave me a look that said 'really, Karen?'. I ended up reinforcing it with zip ties and command hooks, and now it's sturdier than the actual shelf I built 3 years ago in Austin. Has anyone else had a DIY solution that outlasted the 'real' furniture in their cozy space?

Ugh, are you me? I swear the universe rewards janky fixes and punishes anything we actually put effort into. My $8 tension rod setup in my bathroom has survived three moves and a minor earthquake, but the "professional" shelf I bought from a real furniture store collapsed under the weight of one single paperback book. I'm pretty sure my cat also supervises all my DIY projects now, judging me silently until something inevitably crashes. Zip ties and command hooks are basically the duct tape of our generation, so honestly, you're a genius. Your curtain rod is probably going to outlive the rental itself, and that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
