The big debate on whether perfection ruins cozy games
I keep seeing people say Stardew Valley is only relaxing if you ignore the clock and optimization. But I think chasing that perfect farm layout or completing the Community Center by Year 2 is what keeps me hooked. You can play it either way, but which side actually fits the 'cozy' label better? I lean toward goal-chasing being fine, since my 200-hour save file with a maxed-out greenhouse feels satisfying, not stressful. What do you all think?

Totally agree, it's like calling a marathon runner stressed just cause they're pushing for a time goal.

Honestly, does it really matter that much? People treat this like there's some official cozy council that gets to decide what counts. Play the game however you want, who cares about the label. If min-maxing makes you happy then that's your cozy, if someone else wants to just fish all day that's theirs. Both sides are fine, this whole debate just feels like overthinking a video game.

Elliot_patel has a point about the label debate just being overthinking. People chase all sorts of things in real life too for that same feeling, like organizing a closet perfectly or hitting a savings goal. It's just your brain getting a hit of satisfaction from finishing something, whether it's a game or a to-do list.
