Can we talk about how I used to rush through watering in Stardew Valley?

For my first few years playing Stardew, I'd just sprint around with the basic watering can, hating how long it took. I'd skip days or rush through, missing all the little details in the town. Then about six months ago I upgraded to the copper can and started holding the button to water multiple tiles at once. Now I actually take my time, wave at villagers, and notice the crops growing. Has anyone else found that slowing down a simple chore made the whole game feel different?

Yeah, I totally get that "rushing through watering" feeling.

I'm not so sure it's that dramatic though @jasonf17 - I've been rushing watering for years and my plants still seem fine for the most part. Plants are tougher than we give them credit for, a little neglect here and there probably mimics their natural environment anyway. Plus I feel like using a moisture meter for every single watering would drive me crazy, that feels like overkill.

Honestly @eva_thompson, I think a lot of people don't realize how much damage that "rushing through watering" can do. The main thing I see is people only watering the top inch of soil when their plants need a good soak all the way down to the bottom of the pot. If the root ball stays dry at the middle, the plant will start dropping leaves like crazy even if the top looks wet. I learned this the hard way with a ficus that just wouldn't stop yellowing until I started using a moisture meter every time. Do you ever bottom water your plants?
