PSA: Check your monitor arm gas springs before they fail
Was at a coworking space in Nashville last week and watched some guy's monitor slowly drop 6 inches while he was typing. Scared the hell out of me. Turns out those gas springs don't last forever, especially in humid conditions. Anyone else had a desk clamp or arm suddenly give out on them?

Honestly I think "drops like a rock" is a serious exaggeration. I've had mine for 5 years in a humid basement and it still holds position fine, just needs a half turn on the adjustment screw once a year.

I actually read somewhere online that those gas springs lose about 10% of their pressure every year just from normal use. That humidity thing makes sense too, I saw a review from a guy down in Florida who said his arm dropped like a rock after two years. Really makes you wonder why these companies don't put a warning sticker on them or something. I've been keeping an eye on mine ever since I saw that post about a guy who lost a whole monitor to a sudden clamp failure. Makes me think about just replacing the whole arm every few years instead of waiting for it to break.
