I compared a standing desk mat vs. a cheap yoga mat for 3 weeks and the difference is huge.
After my knees started aching from 8 hour days, I grabbed a $15 yoga mat from Walmart but it just slid around everywhere, then I borrowed my neighbor's $60 standing desk mat and the grip actually kept me from shifting all the time - has anyone else noticed how much the surface texture matters for comfort?

Holy cow, a yoga mat slid around that much? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I would have been worried about busting my tailbone every time I shifted my weight. The grip really does make or break these things, you know. It's wild how a little bit of texture can change your whole workday.

Man that tailbone comment hits home - I literally caught myself mid-fall the first day on the yoga mat, like full on cartoon slipping. The grip difference is no joke, my feet would creep forward like an inch every 20 minutes and I'd end up standing all hunched over. The proper mat basically locked me in place which saved my lower back from that constant micro-adjusting. It's rough when the cheap option ends up making things worse instead of just being not as good.
