That vanilla syrup mixup at my local shop nearly ruined my pour over
I grabbed a bottle marked 'hazelnut' off the shelf at Blue Bottle in Portland last week, figured it was fine, and dumped a splash in my V60. Turns out it was a concentrated caramel sauce, not syrup, and my whole brew turned into a sticky mess that took 3 rinses to clean. Has anyone else grabbed the wrong bottle off a busy counter and regretted it?

Cold water brush does save most things, but with caramel you're past that point honestly. That stuff sets like glue when it hits hot grounds, so you're better off soaking the whole V60 in hot water with a drop of dish soap for like ten minutes before you even try scrubbing. I learned that after ruining a ceramic dripper with maple syrup last fall, thing smelled sweet for a week no matter how much I cleaned it. Caramel's even worse because it's got that burnt sugar note that lingers in the pores of the ceramic. You might get lucky with a metal filter though, those just rinse clean under the tap.
