Burned a client's scalp with 30 volume and now I check every single time
I was doing a root touch up on a regular at my salon in Boise and grabbed the 30 volume out of habit instead of the 20 I wrote down in my notes. She started complaining about a tingle maybe 8 minutes in and I looked at her scalp and it was pink and angry right along the part line. I rinsed her out right then, no shampoo, just cool water for 10 solid minutes, and gave her a free deep condition and a $40 credit on her next visit. She was cool about it and came back 6 weeks later, but I felt sick the whole drive home. Now I literally read the formula out loud to myself before I mix, every single time. Anyone else have a close call that made you change how you mix?
Oh man, my friend did almost the exact same thing last year. She was doing a bleach retouch on a girl who wanted that icy platinum look, and she used 40 volume instead of 20 because she grabbed the wrong bottle in a rush. The girl's scalp started blistering around the hairline within 10 minutes, and my friend had to send her to urgent care. She cried in the break room for an hour and now she keeps her developers in totally separate drawers with big labels on them. She also started taking a photo of the formula before she mixes so she has proof of what she used. That scare stuck with her way longer than any bad review ever did.
