That $600 wireless camera system saved my load securement checks, but the mount to hold it burned me 3 times
I rigged up a $600 wireless camera to watch my straps on a 2,000 mile run from Houston to Phoenix, and it worked great until the cheap magnetic mount flew off at 70 mph on I-10, so has anyone found a mount that actually survives highway wind?

The real issue nobody talks about is the camera itself. Those wireless units weigh around 12 ounces with the battery, and a magnetic base rated for 50 mph is figuring on about a third of that weight. So even the RAM mount might not fix it if you're still hanging that much plastic off a mirror arm at 70. What worked for me was ditching the magnet and running a GoPro-style clamp around the mirror bracket with a short arm, then adding a safety tether to the door frame with 80 lb test paracord. The tether costs two bucks and it's the only reason my last camera is still with me. Also check where you mount it, because down low near the hood gets way less wind buffeting than up on the mirror.

Heard those magnetic bases are only rated for like 50 mph and they mean it. Some guys on a trucking forum were saying to bolt a RAM mount straight to the mirror arm or use a suction cup with a locking ring instead. Might be worth a shot before that camera eats pavement again.
