Tried to debate a flat earther on Discord for 3 hours and walked away questioning my own sanity

Have you ever had that moment where you seriously consider if you're the one who's crazy? Because I've been there, and it's a weird feeling (almost like a low-grade existential crisis). I once got into a heated debate with someone about whether the moon landing was faked, and by the end I was googling "how to build a rocket" just to prove a point to myself, which is probably not normal. The whole thing is like watching someone confidently argue that water isn't wet - you know they're wrong, but you start doubting your own grasp on basic reality. Honestly, I've learned that the best response is just to nod, smile, and back away slowly (like you're dealing with a wild animal). At least you walked away with your sanity mostly intact, right?

Do you think walking away and just nodding is really the best approach though... Feels like that's how bad ideas get to fester without anyone pushing back.

This whole flat earth thing is just a symptom of a bigger problem we're seeing everywhere. People get locked into their own little bubbles online and then start treating facts like they're just another opinion. It's like how someone will read one headline and suddenly they're an expert on vaccines or nutrition or whatever. The more we argue with these people the more they dig in, I've noticed that pattern in so many conversations lately. It's almost like being loud and confident has become more important than being right. Have you seen this same thing happening in other topics with people you know?
