Tell you what, I got burned like that on a bigfoot film last year. What finally worked for me was checking the actual runtime before buying anything. A lot of these are just 20 minutes of nonsense padded with hours of public domain footage. Now I only look for stuff with a listed cast and crew, real reviews, not just the crazy ones on the video page. It saves a lot of disappointment and cash.

Checking the runtime is smart, but even a full length film can be total junk. The cast and crew list is the real key, like you said. Without that, you're just buying someone's weird YouTube edit.

Ray136 is right about checking the cast list. That's the only way to avoid the basement green screen specials. Learned that the hard way too.
