Pro tip: nobody needs to acid etch every single driveway
Three weeks ago I bid a 1,400 square foot driveway in Fort Worth, and the homeowner was set on an acid etch because some guy on YouTube called it the only way to prep for sealer. I told her I would just pressure wash, let it dry, and run a good xylene based sealer, which is what my crew did on 60 driveways in the same neighborhood over the past 2 years with no peeling. The etch crowd acts like a clean surface is not enough, but acid does not fix a bad pour or a weak mix, it just burns the top and gives you a chalky look that shows every lap mark. She let me skip the acid and the sealer went down smooth, no bubbles, no haze. Buddy of mine etches everything and he eats a day in labor per job plus the neutralizer rinse, and I still see his jobs peeling two winters later. If your finish is sound, why burn money and time on acid?

Read a spec sheet once saying etching only helps bare concrete.
