Had a real eye-opener on a commercial pour in Boise last fall

We were finishing a 20,000 sq ft warehouse floor and the boss insisted on using a new magnesium bull float he'd bought. Halfway through, the handle snapped clean off at the ferrule, right in the middle of a critical set. Had to scramble with backup tools and it threw the whole crew's rhythm off for an hour. Anyone else had a tool fail spectacularly at the worst possible time?

But come on, a hose blowing is one thing. @milaw14 talking about a weak spot in a bridge deck, that's a real structural problem. A bull float breaking just messes up your finish and your schedule. Annoying, sure, but it's not like you're leaving a hidden defect in the concrete.

We had a brand new concrete vibrator hose blow out on a bridge deck pour in Spokane. It wasn't just the mess, it was the air getting into the mix and creating a weak honeycomb section we had to cut out and repair later. That kind of failure costs way more than just the lost time.

Sounds like a bad day but is that really a common problem? Most hoses hold up fine if they're not defective. Maybe you just got unlucky with a bad batch.
