I finally explained how I fried a motherboard with static
In my experience, a simple static zap turned a quick fix into a costly replacement, but take this with a grain of salt.

Yikes! Static is no joke, it can jump right through the whole system! I've seen a tiny zap to a case fan fry the whole power supply. That little spark travels through every connected wire. It doesn't just kill one part, it can take out the motherboard and everything plugged into it. Always better to just touch some metal first.

My buddy accidentally zapped his graphics card while swapping it out. The whole system just died, smoked his RAM too.
