My morning commute got 12 minutes faster after I changed one thing

I used to just jump on the interstate like everyone else and sit in bumper to bumper traffic from exit 14 to exit 22 every morning. Then about 3 months ago I started taking the old farm road that runs parallel to the highway through Denton. It added 2 miles but I cruise at 45 mph the whole way instead of stopping and starting. Has anyone else found a back road that beats the main route?

That "bumper to bumper traffic from exit 14 to exit 22" is exactly what I used to deal with on my old route to work... I actually read somewhere that taking even slightly longer roads that keep moving can save you more time than sitting in traffic. Something about how your brain processes the stop-and-go stress as worse than the extra distance. I started taking a cut-through through an old neighborhood that adds a mile but I never hit a light for five straight minutes. It's funny how a small change like that can feel like you found a secret hack...
