Cycling the same route for 2 years before I spotted the obvious shortcut
I biked from downtown Austin to the Domain for over 2 years, always hugging Lamar Boulevard because the app said it was fastest. Last Tuesday I got stuck behind a lane closure and detoured through the Brentwood neighborhood, which cut my ride from 34 minutes to 27. Turns out the app had a bike route option I never toggled, and I feel like a moron for not checking it sooner. Anyone else find a better way after months of blindly following the same path?

The 27 minute route sounds like a win, and honestly, I get the frustration. I drove the same way to my kid's school for a year before a road closure forced me down a side street that saved me ten minutes every morning. It's wild how we get locked into what the app says and just stop looking around. I don't think you're a moron, I think the apps hide those options on purpose sometimes. But now you know, and that 7 minutes adds up over a week, that's almost a half hour back. Good on you for actually trying something new when you had to.
