Tried a different lift bag setup for a 20-foot pipeline repair last week

I usually stack three 500-pound bags on the same hook. This time I spread them out along the pipe with separate lines. The lift was way more stable and I didn't have to fight the tilt the whole way up. Has anyone else tried spreading the bags out instead of stacking them?

Saw the same thing when I had to do a lift on a slightly crooked pipe section last month. Spreading them out took a little extra time to rig but the load was way less squirrelly once it came off the bottom. In my experience it's worth the extra effort if you have the room on the pipe.

Nailed it. Spreading slings out stops the pipe from trying to roll on you once it's off the ground. I've seen guys skip it to save ten minutes and almost lose a load. That little extra time rigging saves you a whole lot of headache when that crooked section starts twisting.
