Spent 2 years using the wrong weight on my weight belt before a buddy said something
I always went with what I saw other guys using, like 30-35 pounds for saltwater. One day after a dive a veteran asked why I was fighting so hard to stay down. He had me test my buoyancy with an empty tank and I was way over weighted. Switched to 22 pounds and it made such a difference in air consumption and bottom time. Has anyone else had someone just casually point out a basic thing you were doing totally backwards?

Felt that one. I once spent a whole season with my BCD inflator hose routed under my arm instead of over my shoulder because I thought that was how it was supposed to go. A random guy at the dive shop just looked at me and said "you know that's gonna fail on you someday, right?" Made me feel like a total goof.

Under my arm" sounds like a rookie move I'd pull too. At least you learned before the hose popped.

Buddy of mine did the same thing. Dumped half his air on the first dive.
