Had to choose between a full face mask or a standard demand valve for a long inspection dive in Lake Michigan
The job was a 4-hour hull survey on a barge in 40 feet of water. My boss said the full face mask would be better for comms and warmth, but my old demand valve setup is way simpler and I know it inside out. I went with the standard valve because I didn't want to mess with a new seal on a cold dive. It worked fine, but my jaw was pretty sore from clenching the mouthpiece by hour three. Anyone else ever pick the simpler gear and regret it later?

My dentist says jaw pain from diving is pretty common, not a big deal.

That jaw pain is the worst, man.

Honestly, you saying it's the worst is so true. Tbh I never connected it until my dentist asked about my sleep. Turns out I was grinding my teeth all night from stress without even knowing. That constant pressure just builds up. Now I use a cheap night guard from the drugstore and it's a total game changer. It feels weird at first but the morning pain is pretty much gone.
