This guy at the Portland comic shop said collecting for value is the only real way to be a fan
I was in Cosmic Monkey Comics about a year ago, looking at some old X-Factor issues. A man next to me, holding a sealed Spider-Man #300, said, 'If you're not buying keys, you're just wasting shelf space.' He told me my reading copies were 'worthless' and that real fans focus on investment. It really stuck with me because I just love the stories. Does anyone else feel like this view misses the point of being a fan?

That guy's passion kept me from buying a bad series last month.

Portland's gatekeeping needs its own comic" is so true lol. That guy at Cosmic Monkey is just loud. I buy what I like to read, my shelf space is for me.
