That time I argued with a guy about Batman at a comic con and it got weird fast

Was at a small con in Des Moines last spring, just browsing dollar bins. Some dude in his 40s walks up to me while I'm flipping through a Batman issue and goes 'Batman's a fascist, you know that right?' I just laughed and said nah, he's just a dude with trauma and money. He spent the next 15 minutes listing every reason Batman is secretly evil. Like panel by panel breakdown. I finally just put the comic down and walked away. Has anyone else run into these hardcore takes that kill the fun?

You ever try the "cool story bro" move? Just stare at them blank faced til they run out of steam, then walk off without saying a word. Works every time.

My cousin tried that in a tense meeting at a small insurance firm he worked at in Dayton two years ago. The other person just stood there awkwardly for maybe 60 seconds, then filed a complaint with HR about being "professionally disrespected." So your mileage may vary depending on who you're dealing with and whether there's any real power imbalance at play.

Yeah tried that once at a family dinner, just stood there staring at my uncle while he ranted about politics. Problem was he thought I was having some kind of medical emergency and tried to do the Heimlich on me. So now I just keep it to awkwardly nodding until they trail off on their own.
