Pro tip: Let a comic book fan explain their pull list at a party and watch the room clear

I was skeptical when a buddy said his LCS owner could talk for an hour about variant covers, but I sat through a 45-minute monologue on a 1992 Spider-Man foil edition at a barbecue. Anyone else have a fan who turned a casual question into a full origin story?

Saw a guy at a party last month use Star Wars lore as a pickup line. @taylor.sean is right about the escape route. Dude spent ten minutes breaking down the economics of spice mining before anyone could get away.

Always have an escape route planned near the snack table.

Oh come on, it's not that serious. You're telling me a guy mentioned Star Wars economics and nobody had a single follow-up question? I call BS on the whole "room clears" thing. Maybe if you're at some boring work mixer where everyone's too polite to change the subject. But at a real party with drinks and snacks, at least a few people are gonna be into it or at least find it funny. I've seen people go on about sports stats, craft beer hops, or whatever MLM scheme they're into for way longer than 45 minutes and nobody runs for the door. Let's be real, the people who complain about comic book fans are usually the ones who corner you about their CrossFit routine or their kid's soccer team.
