I thought bagging and boarding every comic was overkill until a pipe burst.
My collection in the basement got soaked, but the ones I had in Mylar bags and backing boards from 2 years ago were completely fine. The rest were a total loss. What's the most unexpected thing that saved your collection?

Honestly, my cheap plastic bins did the trick when my roof leaked.

Yeah, those basic bins are lifesavers. I read a whole article about emergency hacks, and it said to keep a few empty ones in the attic or basement just for this. They're light, you can slide them under a drip fast, and they stack out of the way when you don't need them. Way better than ruining a floor because you're scrambling for a container.

Hold on, that advice sounds like a total pain. Storing empty bins just takes up space you could use for other stuff, and they get dusty or bugs get in them. It's way easier to just grab a big pot or a mixing bowl from the kitchen when a leak starts, you already own those. By the time you run to the attic to dig out a bin, the water damage is already happening.
