I dropped $150 on a limited variant cover of issue #1 and it's already worth $12.
Bought it from a shop in Portland because the cover art looked cool, and now I'm just staring at it wondering if I should frame it or just use it as a coaster - has anyone else gotten burned on a variant that seemed like a sure thing?

Honestly it's wild how the market for these things works, feels like the whole comic speculation game is just gambling with a hobby attached. Reminds me of how everyone piles into trendy stuff thinking it's a lock, then reality checks in.

Started collecting variants because I thought I had a good eye for value, now my longbox looks like a graveyard of bad bets. Bought a 'Fatal Frontier' #1 virgin cover for big money because the art was dope, price tanked faster than my hopes for the series. My wife calls it my 'glorified wallpaper collection' and honestly she's not wrong. At least it saves me money on actual decor, right?

I mean, this is basically the same thing as when everyone was buying fancy kitchen gadgets during the pandemic thinking they'd become gourmet chefs. People just love piling into something hot because it feels like a sure thing, then realize they've just got a drawer full of garlic presses and overpriced cardboard. It's a human thing, not just a comic thing.
