Tried the diner counter instead of a corner table at Rosie's in Dayton, and I was wrong about which one is better
For 2 years I always grabbed the quiet corner table at Rosie's on Third Street. Last Tuesday every table was full so I took the last stool at the counter, right next to a retired mail carrier named Gene. In 45 minutes I learned which regulars take their eggs scrambled versus fried, and Gene told me the story of the 1996 flood that put 4 feet of water in the basement. At the corner table I mostly looked at my phone. The counter wins and it isn't close. What's the best spot in your usual shop for actually running into people?
