The barista at Mudhouse in Springfield told me my order was boring and I still think she was right
Last month I was at Mudhouse in Springfield waiting on a flat white when the barista looked at my order slip and said, plain and simple, you always get the same thing, dont you. I laughed it off but she wasnt wrong, I had ordered the same medium drip with one cream for close to three years at that point. Here is where I disagree with the whole coffee shop crowd, everyone says you should find your drink and stick with it, be loyal, be a regular, but that day I realized I wasnt a regular, I was just on autopilot. So for two weeks after that I made myself order something different every single visit, and most of it was bad. A honey lavender latte tasted like a candle, a cold brew with oat milk left me jittery till 2am, and a cortado was gone in four sips for the same five bucks. But somewhere in that mess I landed on a plain iced americano with a splash of half and half, and now thats my new usual, which probably means I am back on autopilot again. My point is I dont think loyalty to one drink makes you a real coffee shop person, I think trying stuff and mostly failing at it does. Has anyone else had a barista call out their order like that, and did you actually change anything or just go back to the same cup the next day?
Did you at least get a free refill for your trouble? I had a barista once tell me my order was "safe" in a tone that made it sound like an insult to my whole family line. I panicked and switched to some maple cardamom thing that tasted like pancake syrup mixed with soap, so I went crawling back to my plain black coffee the next day. Now I just nod along when they judge me and keep my five bucks pointed at the register.
