That $120 espresso basket upgrade turned out to be a scam
I got talked into buying a precision basket from a local shop here in Portland last month, guy swore it would fix my channeling issues. Paid $120 for a slotted disc that made my shots WORSE, way more spray and sour pulls every single time. Took me 3 weeks of wasted coffee beans to realize it was just a cheap knockoff with marketing, my old $15 basket works fine. The shop wouldn't refund me either, said I used it so it's on me. I'm done chasing gear upgrades, just gonna stick with basic tools and good beans. Anyone else get burned by a fancy gadget that did nothing but drain your wallet?

...and honestly that's the story of how my "pro" upgrade journey ended up costing me more in therapy than coffee. I once bought a fancy distribution tool that was basically a spinning metal puck, and it just made my shots taste like burnt regret mixed with hope. The worst part is I kept it in the drawer for six months like it was gonna magically learn how to work if I ignored it long enough. My bank account still hasn't forgiven me, but at least my old plastic tamper never judged me for my bad pulls.
