Showerthought: my $18 hand grinder from a garage sale in Tulsa beats my old $150 one
Three years back I bought a fancy burr grinder because some barista in Tulsa told me it was the only way to get a decent cup. Last weekend I found a little wooden hand grinder at a garage sale for $18, brought it home, and the coffee was smoother than anything that electric one ever made. I sat there cranking it for maybe 90 seconds and my arm got tired, but the cup was clean, no bitter bite at the end. Now I'm wondering if I wasted three years chasing a machine when the slow way just worked better. Anyone else ditch their electric grinder after trying a hand one, or am I just fooling myself because it's new to me?
