Question about that coding bootcamp grad who told me I was learning wrong

I was in a beginner Python study group at the public library last month and a guy who just finished a 12 week bootcamp said I was wasting time with free YouTube tutorials. He insisted I needed structured projects or I'd never land a job, which made me second guess my whole approach. Has anyone else gotten conflicting advice from bootcamp grads versus self taught coders?

...and like, the thing that sticks with me is how different people learn totally different ways. I had a friend who did one of those 16 week bootcamps and she was great at building apps fast but couldn't explain why her code worked if you asked her. Meanwhile I spent months on YouTube just watching tutorials and breaking stuff on purpose. The bootcamp guy probably really believes in his method because it worked for him, but that doesn't mean your way is wrong. Honestly some of the best coders I ever met started with free resources and just kept messing around until things clicked. Maybe both ways have their place but nobody should make you feel bad for learning at your own pace, you know?

Man I had a friend who spent two years learning Python through free YouTube series and random blog posts. She built a full inventory system for her local bookstore before ever touching a "real" project. The bootcamp grads she met later told her she was doing it wrong too. She just shrugged and kept coding.
