The way my kid builds with blocks made me rethink my setup sheet

Last month, I was watching my 4 year old try to build a tower with these big plastic blocks. He kept putting the same wrong block on top and the whole thing would tip over every time. It hit me that I was doing the same thing with a tricky aluminum part on our old Haas, running the same bad tool path over and over. I finally stopped and wrote down every single step, even the simple ones, on a new setup sheet. Has anyone else had a simple thing make you change how you plan a job?

Watched my neighbor try to assemble a grill without the instructions first... made me finally laminate my drill press cheat sheet.

Oh man, that is so true! I had the same kind of moment watching my niece try to tie her shoes. She kept missing the last loop and it would all come undone. I realized I was skipping the last check on my delivery route and having to double back all the time. Now I have this stupid simple list on my dash, like "turn off car, check name, grab package, confirm address." Writing down the obvious stuff totally saves me.

Totally get that, and @rubyshah is right about writing down the obvious. I started a checklist for my morning machine startup and it fixed so many dumb little oversights.
