Found out our shop's coolant pump was drawing 14 amps over spec from a random forum post
Checked the motor plate and the guy was right, we've been wasting a ton of power for months. Anyone else ever catch a hidden spec like that?

That reminds me of a guy at the old plant who found a compressed air line leaking just from the sound it made. He walked by a junction every day for years and finally put it together. Saved a crazy amount on the air bill. Makes you wonder what else we're all missing right in front of us.

My old apartment had a fridge that hummed weird for two years. Turns out the door seal was shot and it was running nonstop. The power company sent a letter saying our usage was triple the neighbors. We get so used to the background noise of things working wrong that we stop hearing it.

Had a ceiling fan in my last place that clicked every time it turned. Drove me nuts at first but after a month I just tuned it out. Moved out and the new tenant asked if we ever fixed the "broken fan". Checked it and a blade was totally out of balance, rubbing against the housing. We just got used to the warning sound it was making.
