Air pressure drops after I switched toolholders, part quality jumped

Ran the same 6061 job for 2 years with ER collets, always fought with 0.002" runout on the finish pass. Swapped to a hydraulic holder from a tool rep at the Dallas show in March, my surface finish went from 32 to 16 Ra overnight. Took a full week to trust it and redo my speed and feed charts. Anyone else see that big a shift just from changing the holder, or was my old setup just beat?.

That hydraulic holder story reminds me of when my buddy switched from a worn out tape measure to a laser distance thing for his woodworking. He kept double checking every cut for a week because the numbers just seemed too clean. It's like when you finally replace the cheap wiper blades on your truck and realize you've been driving through a smeared fog for six months, you think the road changed but really it was just your tool fighting you the whole time. Same thing happened when I got a new computer mouse at work, suddenly my clicks started landing where I aimed them and I blamed the software for years when it was just a loose sensor. So no, I don't think your old setup was beat in a bad way, it was just tired and you got used to making it work. Once you swap to something that actually does its job, everything else feels like it got easier even though the part never changed.
