I bought a whole home battery system before checking my local grid rules

Spent about $12,000 on a big battery setup for my house in Austin, thinking I could go fully off-grid and sell power back. Turns out, our utility has really specific rules about how you can connect and sell, so now it just sits there as a very expensive backup for outages. Has anyone else run into this kind of red tape with home energy stuff?

Remember my buddy in Phoenix? He bought a massive solar setup before reading the fine print and now he can't even turn it on.

You said it just sits there as a backup, but honestly that's not the worst thing. Power goes out a lot here too, so a reliable backup is pretty nice to have.

Yeah but "reliable backup" is the thing, if it's broken because of some fine print then it's not reliable at all. That's just an expensive paperweight.
