Finally picked between a heat pump and a gas furnace for my old house in Cleveland
Honestly, I spent like three weeks going back and forth on this. My old furnace from 1998 finally died last month, and I had to decide between a new gas furnace or a heat pump. I went with the gas furnace because the winters here are brutal and my electric rates are crazy high. It cost me about $4,500 installed, and so far my heating bills are way lower than what friends with heat pumps tell me they pay. Anyone else have to make this call for an older home around here?

Wait you really paid $4,500 for a gas furnace install??" That seems super cheap honestly lmao. I got quoted almost $6k for a basic gas furnace replacement back in 2019 and my house is tiny. Are you in some sort of rural area or did you get a crazy good deal from a contractor? Just wondering cause I feel ripped off now lol.

But $6k in 2019 probably got you a lot better unit than what I paid for. I'd rather spend more upfront and get something that'll last 20 years instead of having to replace a cheap install every 10.

Yeah @martinez.kim has a point, peace of mind is worth the extra cash upfront.
