Caught my basement drain backing up during a heavy rain last month and realized I'd been ignoring my sump pump maintenance for years
The water started creeping in around 2 AM and I had to bail it out by hand because the pump was clogged with gravel I should've cleaned out last fall... anyone else forget to check theirs until it's too late?

Oh man, that's brutal. It's funny how we treat these things like they'll just take care of themselves, right? I think it's part of a bigger pattern where we ignore the boring stuff that keeps everything running until it's a disaster. Like changing furnace filters or cleaning dryer vents, nobody thinks about it until the thing stops working or catches fire. It's the same with my car's oil changes, I push it off for months then panic when the light comes on. We just assume the quiet stuff will stay quiet forever until it doesn't, lol.
