Can we talk about how many chimney fires start in March?
Read a fire marshal report from Boise that said 22% of their annual calls happen then, right after people stop using their stoves heavily. Anyone else see a late-season spike like that?

That Boise report saying 22% of their calls are in March is a crazy number. It makes sense though, you stop using the stove and forget all that creosote is still up there. I bet a lot of people skip the late season cleaning because they think the fire season is over. That's a scary pattern to see in the data.

Spot on about the late season cleaning. People get busy with spring stuff and forget the chimney is still full of gunk from winter. That leftover creosote can bake into a hard glaze that's way more dangerous to burn later. Makes you wonder if fire departments should push their safety reminders harder in April instead of just fall.
