I was wrong about the whole 'no music in the kitchen' rule

I visited a friend's new spot in Asheville last month and the whole line was quietly listening to a podcast about food history. The head chef said it keeps the mood calm and helps the new cooks learn without feeling like they're being lectured. I tried it with my own team this week, just a low volume history show during prep, and the focus was way better than our usual quiet. Has anyone else found a good non-music audio thing that works for their kitchen?

Okay but like, is the vibe in your kitchen really that fragile that you need a podcast to fix it? A quiet line just sounds like people who know how to do their jobs without needing background noise.

So you've never worked a dead lunch shift, @grace_campbell?

We tried an audiobook once... the quiet focus was actually pretty nice.
