That barista told me I was ordering coffee wrong for 5 years
A barista at my local shop in Austin finally said my usual order of a triple shot latte actually masks the espresso quality. She walked me through tasting it straight first and now I actually notice when beans are stale. Has anyone else gotten feedback that changed a daily habit?

The barista basically called you out for 5 years of bad coffee decisions lol. That's rough but at least you got free education out of it. My buddy used to order a caramel macchiato with extra caramel and the barista just silently judged him until he finally asked what was up. Turns out he was basically drinking hot sugar with a whisper of coffee. Now he just gets a plain latte and acts like a coffee snob about it.

Honestly, I gotta push back on this. There's nothing wrong with ordering whatever you want, even if it's basically hot sugar with a coffee vibe. The barista's job is to make what you ask for, not judge your life choices. Your buddy didn't need to feel shamed into switching to a plain latte just to fit some imaginary coffee standard. Some people legit just want a sweet drink that tastes like dessert, and that's fine. Coffee snobbery is just gatekeeping in a cup, and I'm tired of pretending it's some noble pursuit. Let people enjoy their sugary messes without making them feel bad about it.

My friend Jenna used to order a venti white mocha with extra whip and caramel drizzle every single morning at the same coffee shop. The barista finally handed her a cup one day and said "here's your coffee flavored milkshake" with a straight face. Jenna was so embarrassed she switched to black coffee for a week but then realized she hated it and went right back to her usual order. Now she just uses the drive through at a different place where nobody knows her name. Some people just want their sweet drink without the side of judgment, you know?
