Hot take: I chose letting my cat stay on my lap during a job interview instead of shutting him out

Everyone said it was a disaster waiting to happen, but I figured it showed I was authentic. He ended up purring so loud the interviewer laughed and we bonded over pet stories for 5 minutes straight. Has anyone else deliberately chosen the pet interruption route and had it work out?

@nora_park same here, keeping a pet calm shows you can handle chaos under pressure.

My cat cut a phone interview short by walking on my keyboard and somehow I still got the callback.

Agree with you @nora_park, I used to think that these little interruptions were just distractions that hurt your chances. But honestly, your story changed my mind a bit. It made me think that maybe being flexible and laughing at weird stuff like that actually shows you're a normal person, not a robot. Plus, hiring managers probably see hundreds of fake perfect candidates every day, so someone's cat hijacking an interview might actually make you stand out in a good way. Your mileage may vary of course, but I wouldn't stress about it as much now. It's just proof that sometimes our pets help more than we realize.
