That time a cat in Seattle taught me to always check under the furniture

I was finishing a glue-down job in a condo near Pike Place Market, and the homeowner's cat got locked in the bedroom. We heard this frantic scratching and meowing from under the built-in dresser I'd just set the carpet around. Had to pull up a corner I'd just sealed to let the little guy out. Now I do a visual sweep for pets and toys before I start sealing any perimeter. Anyone else have a weird animal story from a job?

Check for pets before you seal any edge.

We had a cat hide inside a kitchen cabinet once. The homeowner swore it was outside. I started tapping on the cabinet doors before closing them up. Sure enough, one door got a quiet meow back. Now I always do a quick tap and listen check along the baseboards too. It adds a minute but saves a lot of trouble.

Honestly, I'd just ask the homeowner to secure their pets first... seems easier than a visual sweep, @drew_reed62.
