Milled my own walnut vs buying S4S, the table saw setup time was the real winner
Last month I milled 40 board feet of walnut from rough stock for a table top and spent 4 hours on jointer and planer tweaks, while a $180 order of S4S from the local yard went from delivery to glue-up in 90 minutes, so has anyone else found that buying pre-surfaced wood pays for itself once you count setup hours?

Quit fighting with rough stock myself about a year back for big projects. Now I just order S4S for anything wider than a cutting board and save the milling for smaller, fun stuff. Way less time in the shop and way less dust in my lungs.
