Question about the average number of job changes now
I was reading a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and it said people hold an average of 12.4 jobs from ages 18 to 54. That number really surprised me, it feels like a lot more than what my parents' generation did. Does that track with what you've seen in your own career path?

My dad worked at the same plant for 40 years, so I always thought job-hopping was a bad sign. Seeing that BLS number made me look back, and I've already had five different roles since college just by chasing better pay or a shorter commute. It really shows how the whole idea of a "job for life" has mostly disappeared.

My friend's loyalty got her a tiny raise while new hires made way more.

My uncle did 30 years at the paper mill, so I get that old mindset, @hannahsingh. The math just doesn't work for most people now. Staying put often means your pay falls years behind, so moving isn't a bad sign, it's just the required move.
