Overheard my manager say something about layoffs that made me update my resume that night

I was grabbing a drink from the break room at the Ace Hardware in Evanston on Tuesday and heard my district manager talking to the store owner about cutting 3 positions by next quarter. They didn't see me, but I heard them mention my department specifically. Has anyone else gotten a heads up like this and actually acted on it before the axe dropped?

You mentioned "district manager" but then said they were talking to the "store owner" - those are usually two different things at Ace. District managers report to regional higher-ups, not store owners. That said, you did the right thing updating your resume. I had a buddy at Home Depot who overheard his supervisor mention "rightsizing" and thought it was nothing. Two weeks later his whole shift was gone. Did you catch any names or dates they mentioned?

damn that's rough, i'm sorry you had to go through that lol. hearing stuff like that is the worst, especially when you're just trying to do your job. hope you landed somewhere better!
