Noticed a weird pattern in interview waiting rooms after 5 visits
I had 5 interviews last month across different offices in Chicago, and every single waiting room had the same setup: a fake plant, a stack of old magazines, and a water cooler that nobody touches. But what got me was how the receptionists all acted like I was invisible until my interviewer showed up. We talk so much about polishing resumes and answers, but nobody mentions that the waiting room vibe can throw off your whole headspace before you even sit down. Has anyone else had a waiting room experience that actually helped or hurt their interview game?

Funny you mention the receptionist thing, but that part kinda makes sense. The front desk person is usually juggling phones and other stuff, so they might not even realize you're sitting there. My bigger takeaway is that fake plant thing, those are always dusty as hell and it made me wonder if the office itself was just as neglected.
That said, the waiting room never really threw me off. The trick that worked for me was bringing my own notes to flip through instead of staring at the water cooler. Kept my head in the game and made the silence less awkward, even when the interviewer was running late.
