Just learned my old company counts a 40 hour week as 45 and I want to scream
I was catching up with a former coworker from my old office in Cincinnati last week and she dropped that on me like it was normal. Turns out their "full time" contract is 45 hours minimum, but they advertise 40 in every job listing and say the extra is just "flex time" you owe them. I did the math on my old salary: that's about $3.50 an hour I was basically donating for two years. Has anyone here run into a setup like this, and is it even worth calling out in an interview when they pull the same thing?
Flex time you owe them" is one of the wildest things I've ever heard. That's not flex anything, that's just 5 extra hours a week they got for free while telling you it was a perk. If a place pulls that in an interview, ask them straight up how many hours the paycheck is based on, because the listing clearly won't tell you.
