Hot take: I said 'I'm a people person' in every interview for 2 years and got nowhere
A recruiter in Chicago finally asked me point blank what that even means and I had nothing. I pulled up my notes from 14 interviews and every single one had the same three vague lines about teamwork and hustle. She said I sounded like a fortune cookie and told me to swap in one real story with a number in it. Next interview I talked about the time I cut a client's onboarding from 3 weeks to 5 days and got the offer. What's the worst filler line you keep catching yourself saying?

Wait, she said you sounded like a fortune cookie? That is brutal and also kind of hilarious. But the part that really got me is the five days thing, because how do you even cut onboarding from three weeks down to five days? That feels like the whole story right there, not just a number you dropped in. I feel like everyone tells you to add numbers but nobody says the number has to come with a real story behind it. My worst one is probably saying I'm a fast learner, which means nothing when you actually think about it. It is wild that one honest story did more than two years of the same three lines.
