Pro tip: the ferry to Bainbridge got canceled, the backup bus took 4 hours
We sat at the Seattle terminal for 2 hours before they told us the 3:15 boat was dead, then the replacement bus hit traffic on I-5 and we rolled into Bremerton at 7:40 instead of 4:20, has anyone else had a whole day vanish on a canceled route like that?

oh man, that is brutal, we got stuck on the Edmonds/Kingston run last summer and the backup ferry turned out to be a freaking cargo barge with no bathrooms, took us five hours to get to Port Townsend and I missed my whole dinner reservation. honestly you lose a whole day to these things and then you just show up exhausted and have to explain to everyone why you're late, it's the worst.

Ngl, that barge story is making me cringe because I can totally picture that whole mess. We had a similar thing happen on the Bainbridge run once, and I swear we sat in the car for so long that my kid started asking if we were ever gonna move again. And the worst part is you can't even be mad, it's just this whole thing you have zero control over, so you're stuck fuming and hungry and tired all at once. Honestly, the exhaustion is the part that gets me too, you finally get there and you're just done for the day, like you already lived a whole adventure you never signed up for. Tbh I think ferry backups are just nature's way of saying "slow down and suffer for a bit," and I hate that it's always right when you have somewhere important to be.
