Old guy at the dog park changed how I think about being late to stuff
I was supposed to meet a friend for coffee last Tuesday but she bailed at the last minute. Sat there alone for a bit then this older guy next to me starts talking about how he was always late for meetings back in his 30s until his boss called him out. Said 'showing up on time shows people you value them' and it just hit different because I've been flaky lately lol. Has anyone else had a random stranger say something that stuck with you like that?

I read something once in a reddit thread where a guy said he started showing up 15 minutes early to everything and it changed his whole life, not just for work but for his friends too. That old guy at the dog park sounds like he had a point, because I know when someone shows up late for me I get annoyed even if I don't show it lol. It's wild how a total stranger can say something that sticks in your head way more than your own mom telling you the same thing for years.

Actually that whole "15 minutes early" thing is good advice but it only really works if you're already someone who runs late. If you're already showing up on time, being early just means you're sitting there waiting. My aunt used to say the difference between being on time and being early is basically just a lot of wasted time scrolling on your phone. That's the real lesson from the dog park guy though, isn't it, that sometimes the best advice comes from someone you'll never see again.
